Power Cable Installation
Our power teams consist of people who are very experienced in installing underground power cables to a high standard of quality within a set time frame. Our largest contract to date was 14 kilometers of 11kv and 33kv cables buried at 1m through the middle of Nelson. We are also able to complete small jobs that include short footpath crossings into new sub-divisions and anything in between. Connectrix Southern is qualified to work directly for the principle company ie Orion, Network Tasman or Transpower, as well as property developers and private customers.

Connectrix Southern uses a variety of methods for these installations that include trenching or thrusting (using specialist underground moles) depending on the job to be done and the conditions of the area where the job is to be done. We specialise in working on busy main roads that run through the middle of a city and employ suitably qualified staff for traffic management.

Connectrix Southern is an innovative forward thinking company and we are always on the lookout for new opportunities that will enable us to grow and diversify to fulfill the needs of the New Zealand public. We complete the entire job in-house, including job planning, providing traffic management and full reinstatement including all types of asphalt laying. We take immense pride in the quality of our work.

Jobs we have completed include:
  • New Sub station West Melton
  • Sockburn overbridge traffic lighting
  • Woolridth Rd power upgrade
  • St Johns Rd sub division
  • Dudley St upgrade
  • Pages Rd
  • Hastings St Upgrade
  • Carlton Mill Rd Upgrade
  • Electronic Speed signs for Primary Schools
  • Riccarton Rd (1200m)
  • Ilam/ Kirkwood Rds (1800m) Christchurch. (This job had a reduced timeframe half way through the job. It was still completed in this time, on budget)
  • Lichfield St upgrade.
  • Gloucester St (Cathedral Square) cable replacement
  • 11kv placement in the Main Rd Monks Bay. This was complicated in the fact that it is in the main road, it is a busy road, new seal was needed and very precise trenching techniques.

Nelson, 33KV reinforcement from Stoke to Richmond. (1.1m)
This job involved trenching between Stoke and Richmond (approx 8.5km) and laying a 33KV cable plus another 11KV for approx 2km. The route went from the motorway, to main roads, through a major substation and open paddocks. We crossed major trenches, waterways, thick bush, traversed steep hillsides and swamps. We have had to deal with all services that are in the path of the cable which has meant several drill shots. As is usual for us, we did all back filling, asphalt reinstatement and traffic management.

The job was a 7 month contract which is now complete and worth approx $1.1million.
